    My Mission

My mission is to provide competent, confidential, compassionate, and evidence-based care to my patients. My work is not just to write prescriptions, but to look at the whole person, their history, stressors, supports, and dreams as well as their philosophy about using medications. My diagnoses consider the biological, psychological, social and spiritual (if this is important to you) aspects of a patient’s life. I hope always to arrive at solutions collaboratively, as a team.

I believe in the inherent dignity and self-worth of all individuals, regardless of race, gender identification, or sexuality. All are welcome!

By practicing via telehealth, I hope to make a visit with me convenient and easy, without the hassles of commuting or parking. This enables you to schedule an appointment from your work, home, or even vacation. Also, I can see patients who live in other states where I’m licensed (CA, WA, ME, NH). One of the lessons I learned from the COVID pandemic is that telemedicine is not only workable, but effective, and takes some of the stress out of your day.

    Education & Experience

Dr. Lauze (pronounce “lō-ZAY”) hails from Maine originally, and completed his undergraduate education at Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, ME. He attended Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency at Harvard/Beth Israel hospital in Boston.

In residency, he was the Chief Resident of the HIV Psychiatry service, and after graduation became the assistant medical director of that service at Beth Israel. Dr. Lauzé has a long history of working with HIV+, at-risk, and disenfranchised populations, and within the LGBTQ+ community. He served as Medical Director of Mental Health Services at the Sidney Borum Jr. Health Center in inner-city Boston, before moving to California and opening a private practice.

In his 30+ years of practicing, Dr. Lauzé has valued a warm and respectful partnership with patients. He knows the value of listening, and not jumping to conclusions. As a practitioner of mindfulness meditation, he has incorporated mindfulness-based techniques into his work with patients and has helped them develop their own practices. He believes in good communication with a patient’s other providers or family members if needed, but always with a patient’s permission first. Your privacy and the confidentiality of your work together is very important to him.

Dr. Lauzé has also won recognition from his peers for his work with people with substance use disorders, and the introduction of mindfulness-based therapies to facilitate recovery and maintain sobriety.

Dr. Lauzé has also taught “Introduction to Psychopharmacology for Therapists” to MFT and Psychology students at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and also at UCSF’s Alliance Health Project. He has also been an advisor to Bicycle Health, which provides telehealth for people with substance use disorders.
