“Be kind to everyone you meet; we are all fighting a hard battle.”—Plato

I believe in the dignity and worth of each individual.  That respect, privacy, and confidentiality are essential to creating an environment where patients can explore their inner selves.  I believe in not losing sight of each patient’s individual gifts and strengths while looking at their difficulties and struggles.  I believe in respecting a patient’s right to make well informed decisions about treatment modalities, medication trials and treatment goals.  I believe in neither regretting nor shutting the door on the past and that through understanding and accepting how the past has shaped us we can work on changing the moment we are in, right here and now.  I acknowledge the courage that it takes to change maladaptive patterns of relating or coping, and I admire those willing to try.
